The Declaration of Christmas Peace

The traditional Christmas Peace will be declared every year on Christmas Eve 24.12. at 11.50 in the heart of Old Rauma. The Mayor of City of Rauma will declare the Christmas Peace from the stairs of Old Town Hall in Market Place and there will be musical performances by the choirs.

In Rauma the Declaration of Christmas Peace is an old tradition. Christmas Peace has been declared nearly every year outside the City Hall for the last 350 years. The Christmas Peace Declaration has been cancelled only in 1939 due to the heavy Soviet bombing of the city a few days before Christmas. In the past the declaration has sometimes been broadcasted nationwide by radio, last in 1943.

In 2020 and 2021, the Declaration of Christmas Peace was without the audience due the corona situation.
